Do you have a special colleague at The University of Sydney who has helped elevate your career, whether it is through providing emotional support, technical guidance, or career advice? The SEMCAN wants to recognise good mentors for their generosity and collegiality. 

About the awards

The Sydney Early-Mid Career Academic Network (SEMCAN) Mentoring Awards have been established to recognise the mentoring efforts and achievements of the early and mid-career academics at The University of Sydney.

Winners will receive $1,000 and a certificate, to be presented at an awards ceremony.

Eligibility

Eligible nominees

University of Sydney academics who are up to 15 years since they commenced employment (e.g. research or teaching/research or education focused position), excluding career interruptions (e.g. parental leave). The nominations will be judged relative to opportunity.

Assessment criteria and process

Nominees will be assessed on the basis of the information provided on the nomination form, primarily on the nomination statement, and against the following criteria:

  1.  Positive and constructive relationship with mentee
  2. Assistance with and support for the career development of the mentee’
  3. Ability of the mentor to provide such things as motivation, goal setting, decision making and guidance.

The nominations will be judged by the SEMCAN committee and other experienced mentors from across the University.
