This program is specifically designed to support the early-mid career researchers who have successfully gained one of the University’s flagship Sydney Horizon Fellowships This Fellowship scheme empowers Horizon Fellows to undertake innovative research that will contribute to the common good, aligned with the University’s 2032 Strategy.
The program spans the 5-year length of the Sydney Horizon Research Fellowship, supporting Fellows through their onboarding, developing their research leadership capabilities and assisting them with their transition to a 40:40:20 academic role. The core themes align with our own definition of research leadership which was developed for this program with the collective input of a group of academic advisors. These core themes are leading research teams, generating research impact and cultivating research programs, and are underpinned by the cross-cutting theme of effective collaboration.
The program delivery model provides flexibility to adjust to the different needs of the Horizon Research Fellows whilst enabling connectedness between the cohort. It incorporates a core group program that will enhance research leadership skills, knowledge and group cohesiveness, alongside access to existing training opportunities run by experts in their respective fields and 1:1 support (including mentorship) to address more bespoke needs.
