Design your life and career

Interactive workshop for postdocs and ECRs based on Life Design methods
Based on the popular Design Your Life movement from Stanford University, this one-day workshop will introduce early career academics to tools that help you take ownership of your future in a way that aligns with your values and aspirations.

Who is it for? 

The program is targeted at those at the postdoctoral or early career level (Levels A and B) who are at a crossroads in their career and are wanting to explore alternative career paths to academia.

Program contents 

The program consists of a one-day interactive in-person workshop plus approximately 1 hour of pre-work before the session.

In the session you will:

  • Gain a better understanding of what is important to you in your career

  • Identify 'energy givers' and 'energy drainers' in your current work and life and consider how to take positive action to energise your week

  • Use design thinking inspired tools (and an open mindset!) to ideate and explore various opportunities

  • Commit to positive actions which explore new ideas or possibilities for your career

Design Your Life and Career will run next on Friday 13 June 2025, 10am – 4pm

The workshop will be run in person workshop at Camperdown campus.

 

Places available and selection 

  • 25 places maximum, with participants selected via an Expression of Interest process.  

  • Participants will be selected according to the value of the program for their career and stated motivation for applying. 

     

Eligibility 

  • Level A-B academics (continuing, fixed term, casual) employed by the University
